Generator control panel arrives at the Bournemouth data centre

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

The phase 2 build is still progressing well here at our Bournemouth data centre, and completion is just around the corner. Today saw the arrival of our main generator control panel, as the picture below shows.

Generator control panel arriving at the Bournemouth data centre

All of the generators in our Bournemouth facility connect to this control panel, allowing us to power the data centre itself. The control panel also allows for further generators to be introduced in the future, as and when we require them.

At the moment both the generator and the generator casing are being lifted into place. The generator control panel will slot inside the casing so that the equipment will be protected in all weather conditions.

Once the generator control panel and its casing have both been lifted into place, we will also put a perimeter fence around the kit for security reasons.

Sticky Customers Just Another Leadership Slogan?

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

There’s no hiding from the fact that businesses large and small are being hit by the effects of the global recession, but is trying to create ’sticky’ customers just a slogan an MBA keynote speaker came up with? We would argue not. With customers increasingly looking to save money and shop around the market, keeping your customers from going elsewhere is critical if you want to grow a strong customer base, and we can help you do this.

The way to make customers stickier is to not just offer a service that many of your competitors could jump in and take over, but adopt a multilevel approach. What do we mean by this? Become an asset to your customers so that they couldn’t imagine switching providers, as you offer so much it would simply be too much hassle to go elsewhere. The easiest way to expand your product portfolio is by offering value ads around your support and consultancy such as managed connectivity, virtual servers, hosted applications, online backup, disaster recovery and business continuity to list just a few.

This is where we want to help. Whether you want an easy route to market or to build your business around running your own platforms, we are here to assist. As an infrastructure partner we want to work with you in a way that allows you to wrap your service offering around our infrastructure, giving your customers more. But don’t just aim for your customers to be sticky, aim for them to be advocates.

C4L – Another year stronger….

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Now that the New Year is fully under way, we took the time to reflect back on the events of the past 12 months, and recap on another successful year.

2011 was a momentous year for us here at C4L, with a wealth of achievements contributing to our overall success throughout the past 12 months. After selling out our highly anticipated Bournemouth data centre, increasing the size of the facility was the logical next step. The expansion of the facility, which is the largest of its kind in the South West, demonstrates our continued effort to invest in the region. For C4L, the South West has provided the perfect environment to push the boundaries of internet infrastructure provisions, and in part the level of our success can be attributed to our location.

In a further success for C4L, we were ranked 52nd in the Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100, a list of the 100 fastest growing technology companies in the UK. Support for this accolade is evident through our ever-increasing presence in over 40 data centres throughout the UK and Europe, and our continued staff recruitment driving the company forward.

Recognition for this fast developing company did not stop there….over the summer we gained acknowledgement from a large number of industry bodies. Alongside achieving finalist positions for ISPA’s Best Business Customer Service ISP, Best Hosting and Best Dedicated Hosting awards, we also made our third straight appearance in the Deloitte Fast500.

We’re thrilled with C4L’s progress over the last 12 months, and can’t wait for the great things 2012 has in store for us. As well as the expansion of our Bournemouth data centre, we’re hoping to build another C4L owned data centre in West London, which will help us further increase our presence in the capital. This may even incorporate a London office, which would be a great expansion for us and would lead to further investment and recruitment on behalf of the company. Cloud computing and virtualisation are also a large focus for us over the next 12 months, so keep an eye out for other C4L group brand launches throughout the year.

With events celebrating the launch of our Bournemouth data centre phase 2 taking place early in the New Year, and with our presence in data centres across UK and Europe continuing to expand, 2012 promises to be another triumph for C4L.

Bournemouth Data Centre – Phase 2 has begun!

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

We’re pleased to share the exciting news that we are now building phase 2 of our Bournemouth data centre! Due to the overwhelming success we’ve experienced since the completion of phase 1, we’re now tripling the site’s capacity.

To celebrate this achievement, we’ve decided to bring to you our top five features of the Bournemouth data centre.

1. Cost effective colocation outside of London

The Bournemouth Data Centre benefits from exemplary levels of latency, due to the fact that it’s operated via C4L’s 100% privately owned network. This means customers can enjoy low latency levels without the expensive London price tag.

2. Premium Tier 2+ specification throughout

The Bournemouth site is built to a premium Tier 2+ specification, solidifying its position as one of the best colocation facilities in the South West.

3.  Dual internet connections to ensure that you stay online 100% of the time

The provision of diverse connectivity as standard ensures that customers are kept online in any situation.

4. A unique biometric security system for your added protection

Our biometric security system provides additional security for your IT equipment, adding fingerprint recognition software to the already stringent security measures in place throughout the facility.

5. 24/7 x 365 onsite security

A further reassurance comes in the form of our 24/7 x 365 onsite security, giving each customer the peace of mind that their IT equipment is completely secure.

To further celebrate the expansion of our Bournemouth data centre, we’re going to be doing a daily blog over the next month, so please keep visiting to check up on our progress!

Colocation for smaller companies

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Previously we talked about the importance of a reliable data centre, highlighting the difficult balance colocation customers must strike between specification and cost. Whilst it is inevitably smaller organisations who will find it most challenging to secure cost effective colocation, the realisation amongst consumers that colocation can improve cost efficiency and sustain competitive advantage has meant that DIY data centres are in decline across the UK.

With this in mind, it’s worth looking into the specific benefits that the SME sector can enjoy when using data centres.

To all enterprises, large or small, colocation can provide a way of ensuring continued income generation, whilst also providing efficiency and maximum uptime for your business. As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, downtime can cause irreparable damage, and this rings true even more so for smaller organisations whose client base can’t stand to lose customers through damaged reputation as a result of connectivity downtime. However, not only does colocation provide connectivity guarantees that are difficult to achieve through independent provisions, it also offers many other benefits that we feel could prove equally as important to the operations of a small to medium organisation.

In terms of knowledge and expertise, network operations centres manned by trained operatives can provide an unfathomable amount of know-how. Whilst all businesses like to think that a major fault will not happen to them, the provision of an operations centre allows businesses access to expertise as and when they require it, without paying through the roof.

On-site security is another key benefit, as data centres can provide a level of protection largely unfeasible by other means. The extensive costs involved in employing round the clock security mean that many small businesses leave their equipment open to damage and theft, whereas colocation customers are protected by their data centre’s security provisions.

Faster connection speeds at lower costs and affordable bandwidth when purchased through a colocation provider also mean that colocation customers can easily and affordably expand their IT infrastructure alongside their organisation.

We believe that all these arguments point to one conclusion – that businesses within the SME sector have as much, if not more, to gain by using data centres as large corporates, thanks to the assurances and overall costs savings that these solutions provide.
