Bournemouth data centre

Here at C4L we’d like to invite you to the launch events for our Bournemouth data centre, taking place on 21st and 22nd February.

Due to the overwhelming success we’ve experienced in providing our award winning internet infrastructure solutions locally, we have been further expanding our facilities within the Bournemouth data centre, which you may have read about in previous blog posts.

Those attending will be given the rare opportunity to take a guided tour around the South West’s largest colocation facility, accompanied by our in-house data centre experts.

There are various time slots for the launch events, so to find out more and reserve your place, please click here.

Alternatively, if you’re unable to make either of these dates, please click here to register for a private tour of the facility at your convenience.

Generator control panel arrives at the Bournemouth data centre

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

The phase 2 build is still progressing well here at our Bournemouth data centre, and completion is just around the corner. Today saw the arrival of our main generator control panel, as the picture below shows.

Generator control panel arriving at the Bournemouth data centre

All of the generators in our Bournemouth facility connect to this control panel, allowing us to power the data centre itself. The control panel also allows for further generators to be introduced in the future, as and when we require them.

At the moment both the generator and the generator casing are being lifted into place. The generator control panel will slot inside the casing so that the equipment will be protected in all weather conditions.

Once the generator control panel and its casing have both been lifted into place, we will also put a perimeter fence around the kit for security reasons.

C4L – Another year stronger….

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Now that the New Year is fully under way, we took the time to reflect back on the events of the past 12 months, and recap on another successful year.

2011 was a momentous year for us here at C4L, with a wealth of achievements contributing to our overall success throughout the past 12 months. After selling out our highly anticipated Bournemouth data centre, increasing the size of the facility was the logical next step. The expansion of the facility, which is the largest of its kind in the South West, demonstrates our continued effort to invest in the region. For C4L, the South West has provided the perfect environment to push the boundaries of internet infrastructure provisions, and in part the level of our success can be attributed to our location.

In a further success for C4L, we were ranked 52nd in the Sunday Times Microsoft Tech Track 100, a list of the 100 fastest growing technology companies in the UK. Support for this accolade is evident through our ever-increasing presence in over 40 data centres throughout the UK and Europe, and our continued staff recruitment driving the company forward.

Recognition for this fast developing company did not stop there….over the summer we gained acknowledgement from a large number of industry bodies. Alongside achieving finalist positions for ISPA’s Best Business Customer Service ISP, Best Hosting and Best Dedicated Hosting awards, we also made our third straight appearance in the Deloitte Fast500.

We’re thrilled with C4L’s progress over the last 12 months, and can’t wait for the great things 2012 has in store for us. As well as the expansion of our Bournemouth data centre, we’re hoping to build another C4L owned data centre in West London, which will help us further increase our presence in the capital. This may even incorporate a London office, which would be a great expansion for us and would lead to further investment and recruitment on behalf of the company. Cloud computing and virtualisation are also a large focus for us over the next 12 months, so keep an eye out for other C4L group brand launches throughout the year.

With events celebrating the launch of our Bournemouth data centre phase 2 taking place early in the New Year, and with our presence in data centres across UK and Europe continuing to expand, 2012 promises to be another triumph for C4L.

Fully monitorable power usage at our Bournemouth data centre

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

The expansion of our Bournemouth data centre is still progressing well, and the facility is really starting to take shape!

In order for us to offer cost savings to clients within the Bournemouth data centre, we have ensured that we can accurately monitor the power used within the facility. This monitoring will also allow us to keep a closer eye on our own energy efficiency, and will help to lower CO2 emissions.

The picture you see below shows the piece of kit that allows all of this to happen – a  Power monitor.

Power monitoring system

This equipment will allow us to monitor the power usage of a particular rack at PDU level. At the centre of this system is an energy metering device for each circuit, which is capable of measuring a wide variety of power usage, including…

  • RMS Voltage (Volts)
  • RMS Current (Amps)
  • Power Factor (%)
  • Apparent Power (kVA)
  • Active Power (kW)
  • Reactive Power (kVAr)
  • Apparent Energy (kVAh)
  • Active Energy (kWh)
  • Reactive Energy (kVArh).

The overlying benefit of our extremely accurate power monitoring system is that we will now be able to offer customers two types of colocation within the Bournemouth facility.

The first of these is typical colocation option where our customers will commit to 8/12/16amps in a rack and pay for  their commit. The second option is that we will  now also be able to provide a footprint cost and then bill for power on a monthly basis. Furthermore, we can also provide graphs of each customers’ power usage, which will accessible from the new customer portal (more to come on that in the New Year!)

Each customer rack will also be equipped with a switched power bar, again allowing us to track power usage and offer customers the ability to turn sockets on and off remotely, saving a huge amount of time if just a simple reboot is required. Of course this option will only be offered if customers so wish, as our technicians are still only a few floors up from the data centre, and on hand to personally attend a rack if needed.

Switch gear now installed within the Bournemouth data centre

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Installations are being made every day here at our Bournemouth data centre, and the facility is really starting to take shape.

The latest addition to the facility is the installation of our switch gear.

Switch gear is a vital part of a data centre environment, as it connects all of the electrical systems together and distributes electricity from the mains or generators to the PDUs on the floor. Another benefit is that the switch gear allows us to monitor our power usage, meaning that we can keep one eye on energy efficiency whilst also ensuring that the usage of each piece of equipment is kept within its operating parameters.

The photo below shows what the switch gear looks like…
