The 2011 Business Data Loss Survey results have recently been released, and so today we’re focusing upon the prominent importance of data storage.
The survey has highlighted how increasingly relevant data protection is, with one of its findings being that 50% of the 250 companies surveyed had lost business critical data at some point over the course of 2011.
The most concerning finding the survey identified was that 10% of companies stated they would not be able to recover business data if it became lost. Further to this, 37% of businesses estimated that data recovery could take up to a day or more, and in some cases up to a month, which would undoubtedly be detrimental to any business.
The report also uncovered that 60% of companies now use laptops as their primary systems, illustrating a definitive move towards business data mobility. This mobilization of corporate data increases data loss risks, as well as intensifying possible cyber security threats and unauthorized access to corporate information.
Businesses lose millions every year due to data loss from hardware or system failure, human error and software corruption. The findings from this year’s survey demonstrate how critical data storage is for any operational company, and having an off-site data storage location is imperative to their continuity, be it at a data centre location or in the cloud.
This year’s survey highlights how imperative data storage is to prevent businesses suffering from data loss. With this in mind, we’ve recently built a new Dell EqualLogic Shared Storage Area Network (SAN), which is an exceptionally flexible storage offering, allowing you to choose the right amount of data storage to meet your company’s requirements.
