UPS installation begins at our Bournemouth data centre

Monday, November 14th, 2011

We’re making great progress here at our Bournemouth data centre, and the next step in our phase 2 build is the installation of our Uninterruptable Power Supply (or UPS) units.

These power supply units ensure that power to our data centre is maintained in all circumstances. As with many of our Bournemouth data centre features, there is the provisioning of N+1 on our UPS, meaning that with one unit inactive, the others could fully support the entire data centre for 10 minutes should the unlikely event of an outage occur. Within these 10 minutes, the generators will start to take the site’s electrical load, meaning that power remains uninterrupted within the data centre.

The picture you see below is one of UPS units…

Air Conditioning units have now arrived at our Bournemouth data centre

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

Today has seen the arrival of our new air conditioning units here at the Bournemouth data centre. These units will ensure that the data centre remains at a perfect temperature for the kit held within racks to operate at optimum levels.

The air conditioning units also have N+1 redundancy, meaning that with one unit inactive the data centre will still be supported  should any unfortunate (and unlikely) events occur, or if we are performing our maintenance operations.

The units are particularly big and bulky, and to enable us to manoeuvre them in successfully, a very strange trick is used…

Whilst it seems an unusual method, washing up liquid helps to lubricate the surfaces surrounding the units so that we can successfully position them within the data centre!

Below you can see a picture of the air conditioning units being installed.

Lighting now installed at our Bournemouth data centre

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Work is continuing on here at our Bournemouth data centre, and we’re making great progress with the build.

As well as the more notable additions to the data centre, such as the raised flooring, fire protection and Power Distribution Units, there are also a number of minor installations being made.

One key example of this is the provision of lighting, specially designed to give all areas of the room light exposure during the evening and night-time hours.

The picture below shows how these light bars look when installed

Fully monitorable PDUs installed within our Bournemouth data centre

Monday, November 7th, 2011

We’re making great progress with the build of phase 2 of our Bournemouth data centre, and today we’re installing our new Power Distribution Units – otherwise known PDUs

The PDUs will provide up to 32 Amps of power to the racks within the data centre floor, and will be fully monitorable, meaning we’ll be able to see exactly how much power is being used by each rack within the facility.

The PDUs will also link back to our Power Management System (PMS), which will collate all of the monitoring that we do on-site, and enable us to keep an eye on our energy efficiency.

The picture you see below shows one of the PDUs being installed.

FM200 fire equipment now being installed within the Bournemouth data centre

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Yesterday we mentioned that we’re now taking deliveries at our Bournemouth data centre, and today has seen the arrival of some very exciting kit!

As you can see from the picture below, our FM200 fire equipment system has now arrived and is being installed within the facility.

The inclusion of this fire protection equipment helps us to plan for any eventuality, meaning customers’ kit would be protected in the unlikely event that a fire were to break out within the facility.

The installation will take around 4-5 days to complete, as there is a large amount of pipework to be installed and then painted. We’ll keep you updated with our progress!
